KAMPALA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Top football clubs from across East and Central Africa have confirmed their participation in the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) said on Monday.
Yusuf Mossi, CECAFA's Competitions Manager, told Xinhua that league champions and leading clubs from member associations across the region have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
Mossi also revealed that the competition will be held in Kigali from July 24 to Aug. 7, following a request from one of the hosts, the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA).
Hosts Rwanda, Sudan and Tanzania will each field two teams in the tournament. APR FC and Rayon Sports FC will represent Rwanda, while Tanzania's representatives will be Young Africans SC and Simba SC. Sudan will enter Al Hilal SC and Al Merriekh SC.
Other confirmed participants include Vipers SC of Uganda, Gor Mahia FC of Kenya, Jamus SC of South Sudan, Mogadishu City Club of Somalia, KVZ FC of Zanzibar and AS Port of Djibouti.
Tanzania's Singida Black Stars FC won the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup after defeating Rwanda's APR FC in the final. ■
