LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) Monday approved the proposal to move most ice sports competitions at the 2030 French Alps Olympic Winter Games to Lyon, France, in an effort to reduce Games costs.
The French Alps 2030 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) submitted proposals to relocate curling, figure skating, ice hockey and short track speed skating to a new cluster in Lyon to the IOC EB during the two-day meeting here.
"This evolution supports a more compact overall Games footprint and enables significant cost efficiencies, while maintaining a high-quality competition and athlete experience," the IOC announced.
The IOC EB also approved Thialf in the Netherlands as the proposed speed skating venue, pending completion of OCOG discussions with venue owners. Courchevel and Val d'Isere in France have been confirmed as the two Alpine skiing venues, covering technical and speed events.
In other decisions at the meeting, the EB approved the reallocation of medals in the women's 800m at the 2012 London Olympics after Yekaterina Poistogova, now Yekaterina Guliyev, of Russia was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation.
Her silver medal was reallocated to Pamela Jelimo of Kenya, who finished third, while Alysia Montano of the United States was awarded bronze. ■
