BERLIN, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China's Zheng Qinwen and her compatriot Wang Xinyu both secured spots in the second round of the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open on Monday in the German town just outside Frankfurt.
Wildcard entrant Zheng survived a three-set thriller against Argentinian qualifier Solana Sierra. The 23-year-old battled for two hours and 23 minutes to edge her opponent 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
Zheng now moves on to face Clara Tauson of Denmark in the next round.
On the same day, Wang enjoyed a much more comfortable path to the second round, firing 15 aces to dominate Mexico's Renata Zarazua.
Wang wrapped up a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory to claim her first grass-court win of the season. ■
