LOS ANGELES, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Disney and Pixar's animated film "Toy Story 5" took the top spot at the North American box office on its opening weekend with an estimated three-day total of 160 million U.S. dollars, figures from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

The film, scoring the biggest domestic opening weekend of the year, is the fifth installment in Pixar's beloved Toy Story franchise and serves as the sequel to 2019's "Toy Story 4."

Internationally, "Toy Story 5" generated 152 million dollars, bringing its worldwide opening-weekend total to an impressive 312 million dollars.

The film holds an approval rating of 94 percent based on 217 reviews to date on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes. It earned an "A" on an "A+" to "F" scale from audiences polled by market research firm CinemaScore.

Universal Pictures' science fiction film "Disclosure Day" came in second with 17 million dollars on its second weekend. The film has grossed 78.3 million dollars in North America after 10 days in theaters.

Rounding out the top three, Focus Features' R-rated horror film "Obsession" earned 14.2 million dollars on its sixth weekend.
