NEW DELHI, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Several people, mostly students, died when a multi-storey building caught fire in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, according to a local police officer.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the final death toll, though some reports put it at around 14.
The fire broke out in the building with a coaching center where students were in class; some jumped from windows and were injured, then taken to a local hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families and said rescue operations are underway. ■
