ULAN BATOR, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday issued a flood warning as water levels continue to rise across several parts of the country.
According to the NEMA, water levels in major rivers and lakes in northern, central and eastern Mongolia, including the Orkhon, Khuder and Yuruu rivers, had risen by 50 to 100 centimeters as of Monday compared with the previous day, exceeding warning thresholds.
The emergency agency said water levels in these rivers are expected to increase further in the coming days and urged the public to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential flood-related hazards.
Since mid-last week, large parts of Mongolia have experienced cold rain and wet snowfall, accompanied by unusually low temperatures for this time of year. In some areas, temperatures have dropped below minus 5 degrees Celsius at ground level, bringing unseasonably cold conditions across the country. ■
