Shanghai, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival has generated almost 5.3 billion yuan (about 777.7 million U.S. dollars) in economic benefits, up nearly 6 percent compared with the previous edition, its organizers said.

The event, which ran from June 12 to 21 this year, contributed approximately 1.17 billion yuan to the catering industry and over 3 billion yuan to shopping expenditure. Additionally, significant growth was seen in the transportation, tourism and accommodation sectors.

During the festival, more than 70 percent of audiences came specifically to attend the event, boosting spending on accommodation, transportation and tourist attractions, contributing almost 2.3 billion yuan to the city's tourism revenue.

This year's festival also collaborated with popular Shanghai neighborhoods to create themed city walking routes. It for the first time introduced a "cinema fan passport," turning movie-watching, checking in, stamp collecting and interactive activities into a lifestyle during the festival.
