BERLIN, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Left Party on Saturday elected Ines Schwerdtner and Luigi Pantisano as its new co-leaders during a federal party congress in Potsdam.
Schwerdtner, who has been the party's co-chair since October 2024, was overwhelmingly confirmed in her position with 85.7 percent of the votes, according to the party's latest election results.
Pantisano, currently the deputy head of the party's parliamentary group, received 53.3 percent of the votes. He succeeds Jan van Aken, who did not seek re-election due to health reasons.
After the 2025 federal elections, the Left Party has 64 seats in the 630-seat Bundestag, the lower house of parliament. ■
