BANGKOK, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A concrete slab from the second floor of a building in Bangkok collapsed, crushing and killing one person on Saturday afternoon, local media reported.
At around 4:57 p.m. local time, the Samphanthawong District Office responded to a building awning collapse on Rama IV Road, and firefighters and other rescue units rushed to the scene.
According to on-site verification, the accident was caused by the collapse of the canopy on the second floor of the building, which caused a large amount of building debris to fall onto the road, resulting in the death of a passerby and damage to a passing vehicle.
Rescuers have recovered the body and transported it to the hospital. Officials are investigating the true cause of the incident and assessing the structural integrity of the building. ■
