TEHRAN, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday exchanged views with Pakistani prime minister and Qatari emir on the newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.

In separate phone calls with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Pezeshkian praised the "constructive role" played by Pakistan and Qatar and their efforts to de-escalate tensions and facilitate the diplomatic process, which eventually led to the signing of the MoU early Thursday, according to statements published on the website of his office.

He expressed hope that the MoU would prepare the ground for peace, reduce tensions and open a new phase of regional cooperation in line with safeguarding the interests of the region's nations.

Pezeshkian described the development as an opportunity to expand regional cooperation, strengthen unity among Muslim countries and establish lasting peace and stability in the region. He stressed the need for involved parties to remain committed to their obligations under the agreement.

In a statement, Qatar's Foreign Ministry said the MoU provides a solid foundation for advancing to the next stage of negotiations between Washington and Tehran and creates an opportunity to achieve broader and more sustainable outcomes.

Also on Thursday, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, to discuss the U.S.-Iran MoU, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Araghchi highlighted the provisions of the MoU, saying the United States bears responsibility for ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Iran, the United States and Pakistan early Monday announced the finalization of the MoU on ending the war in the region on all fronts, including Lebanon. The agreement was signed early Thursday by the Iranian president and his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump.

On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. bases and assets in the region.
