PHNOM PENH, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Friday welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran aimed at consolidating the ceasefire, reducing tensions, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
"Cambodia has consistently supported the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect," said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
"Cambodia commends the efforts of those involved in facilitating the process that have led to significant achievements and hopes that the agreement will be implemented in good faith and lead to a durable and sustainable peace," the statement added.
The statement said that Cambodia believes that peace, stability, and freedom of navigation in the Middle East are essential for regional and global security, economic growth, international trade, and common prosperity.
"The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would help restore confidence in global supply chains and contribute to stability in international energy markets," the statement said.
"Cambodia encourages all parties to build on this positive momentum through sustained dialogue and constructive engagement aimed at fostering lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond," it added. ■
