JERUSALEM, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday released a detailed operational map outlining the designated "security zone" where Israeli troops are deployed in southern Lebanon.
According to the map and an accompanying military statement, the buffer zone extends up to around 10 km deep into Lebanese territory.
The graphic also shows extensive maritime control through a designated naval security zone that extends into Lebanese waters in the Mediterranean Sea. Furthermore, the secure perimeter stretches further east along the Lebanon-Syria border.
The Israeli army said its forces operating in the security zone will continue to remove threats and strengthen the defense of Israel's northern residents.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated on Thursday that the Israeli military will remain in the security zone in Lebanon as long as Israel's security needs require it. ■
