HONG KONG, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong has advanced one spot to rank second in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2026 published Thursday by the Switzerland-based International Institute for Management Development, the highest since 2019.

Among the four main competitiveness factors in the report, Hong Kong ranks second globally in "Government Efficiency" and third in "Business Efficiency."

In terms of sub-factors, Hong Kong tops the rankings in "Tax Policy" and "Business Legislation." It ranks second globally in "Finance" and third in "International Trade," "International Investment," "Management Practices," as well as "Education."

The report reaffirms Hong Kong as one of the most competitive economies in the world, said a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

Amid rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics, Hong Kong has become a "value hub" that offers both security and growth opportunities, said the spokesperson, citing solid credit rating results for Hong Kong in recent months as well as the International Monetary Fund's nod to Hong Kong's resilient economic growth and financial system.

Hong Kong's first five-year plan will open up new opportunities for global investors and enterprises, said the spokesperson.
