BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China has decided to provide a new batch of humanitarian aid to Iran and Lebanon in the near future to further assist the people there in their recovery, reconstruction and economic development, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.
Lin made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a question regarding the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict and the spillover effects that have resulted in heavy civilian casualties, widespread infrastructure destruction and severe strains on livelihoods in the Middle East.
Lin said China is deeply saddened by the humanitarian disaster in the Middle East caused by the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict and the spillover, adding that China has provided Iran and other countries with emergency humanitarian aid in March this year.
"As a good friend of Middle Eastern countries and a responsible major country, China will continue to offer support and assistance within its capacity," Lin said.
"China will also make further effort for peace talks, and continue playing a positive role for restoring peace and tranquility to the Middle East at an early date," he added. ■
