MIAMI, United States, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A fire and explosion that took place in Miami-Dade County hours before the kick-off of a World Cup game between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay on Monday killed one and injured four people, Miami-Dade sheriff confirmed on Tuesday.
The Florida state fire marshal, Miami-Dade fire rescue and the sheriff's office will investigate the explosion near the Miami-Dade depot at 6100 SW 87th Ave., north of Kendall, just after 10 a.m.. The depot is where fire-rescue vehicles get fueled up and serviced.
Officials say over 40 Miami-Dade rescue units responded to reports of the explosion. They began evacuating the area and found one man dead. First responders took three men - one of whom is a lieutenant - to the hospital and another man went on his own to the hospital. One person is in critical condition.
The explosion site at Florida's largest county was 26 miles south to the Miami Stadium, where Saudi Arabia held two-time World Cup champion Uruguay 1-1. ■
