ISLAMABAD, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's information technology (IT) sector recorded a strong performance in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, with exports reaching 4.2 billion U.S. dollars from July 2025 to May 2026, up 20 percent year on year, an official said on Wednesday.

Khurram Schehzad, adviser to Pakistan's finance minister, said in a statement that the country's tech exports totaled 373 million dollars in May, marking a 13 percent increase compared with the same month last year.

The adviser said the sector is expected to surpass 4.5 billion dollars in exports by the end of the current fiscal year.

The technology sector has emerged as one of Pakistan's strongest export-performing industries, supporting digital transformation, creating high-value employment opportunities and expanding the country's presence in international technology markets, he said.

He added that continued policy support and measures outlined in the fiscal year 2026-27 budget would help sustain double-digit growth in the sector, attract greater investment and further strengthen Pakistan's position in the global technology landscape.

Pakistan has identified information technology and digital services as key drivers of export growth and economic modernization, with authorities seeking to enhance the sector's competitiveness through investment-friendly policies, skills development and improved digital infrastructure.
