RAMALLAH, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Four Palestinians were injured Wednesday in an attack by Israeli settlers on the town of Beita, south of Nablus in the northern West Bank, while two mosques north of Ramallah were burned.

Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that settlers attacked Palestinian homes in the Bir Quza and al-Hariq areas of Beita, damaging several vehicles and smashing windows before residents confronted them.

The sources added that Israeli army forces stormed the area and assaulted residents, injuring four of them. The injured received on-site medical treatment.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army.

In another incident, settlers set fire to two mosques in the villages of Jaljulia and Mazra'a al-Nubani, north of Ramallah in the central West Bank.

The West Bank has witnessed a continuous escalation since Oct. 7, 2023, including killings, arrests, the demolition of homes and structures, and settler attacks.

Since January, more than 1,000 settler attacks caused casualties or property damage across more than 230 communities, with over 2,200 Palestinians displaced in this context, a UN report said in mid-June.
