LONDON, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Police in Northern Ireland on Tuesday appealed for information after a pipe bomb-type device was found on a car in Londonderry.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said detectives were investigating the discovery of the device in the Nelson Drive area of the Waterside.
Detective Inspector Connolly said a loud bang was reported in a housing area at around 12:30 a.m. local time (1130 GMT). A car window was found broken, and a pipe bomb-type device was discovered on the windscreen.
Police officers and ammunition technical officers attended the scene, and cordons that had been in place for several hours overnight have since been lifted. The object was declared a viable device and taken away for further examination, police said.
Police urged anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area, particularly those with CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage, to contact them. ■
