KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's domestic tourist visits rose 11.5 percent year on year in 2025, reaching 290.1 million from 260.1 million in 2024, official data showed on Tuesday.

Domestic visitor expenditure rose 13.6 percent to 121.3 billion ringgit (about 29.84 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025 from a year earlier, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

Growth in spending was driven by increases in both tourist and excursionist expenditure, which rose 14.6 percent and 12.2 percent, respectively. Tourist spending remained the largest contributor, accounting for 59.5 percent of total domestic visitor expenditure.

Overall, the sector recorded continued growth in 2025, underpinned by sustained demand for leisure, cultural and business travel.
