KABUL, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Police have seized 231 kg of opium and taken into custody four drug traffickers in the fight against illegal drugs in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province on Tuesday, a statement of the provincial police office said.
The alleged drug smugglers had placed the contraband in the cavities of two cars and were attempting to transport the narcotics to the southern Helmand province, the statement said, adding that police discovered the illicit object during routine checking and took into custody four individuals.
After completion of the preliminary investigation, all the suspected drug smugglers would be handed over to the judiciary, the statement further said. ■
