HANOI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam plans to put seven new airports into operation by 2030 to expand the country's aviation network and meet rising travel demand, the Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.
These include two flagship airports, Long Thanh International Airport in the southern city of Dong Nai and Gia Binh International Airport in the northern province of Bac Ninh, the report said.
Five others are Quang Tri in the central province of the same name, Phan Thiet in the central province of Lam Dong, Sa Pa in the northern province of Lao Cai, Tho Chu in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang and Thanh Son in the central province of Khanh Hoa.
By the end of the decade, the country aims to operate 32 airports, including 15 international and 17 domestic gateways, with a combined capacity of up to 220 million passengers annually, according to a report from the Ministry of Construction.
Total investment in airport development during 2021-2030 is estimated at 485 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 19.3 billion U.S. dollars), with about 55 percent expected to come from state funding. ■
