BERLIN, June 15 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Monday welcomed the peace deal between the United States and Iran, describing it as a "diplomatic breakthrough."
In a statement, Merz congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump and the Iranian side on the deal, expressing gratitude to all partners who contributed to the achievement.
The agreement can pave the way for a recovery of the world economy and a stabilization of the region, Merz said.
He called for the Strait of Hormuz to remain permanently open for free navigation without restriction. ■
