WUHAN, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese youth are actively engaging in cutting-edge fields including aerospace, deep-sea exploration, and artificial intelligence as the country pursues scientific and technological modernization, a new think tank report said on Monday.

According to the report "Chinese Youth: Strivers and Global Contributors in the New Era" released by Xinhua Institute, scientific and technological modernization is a core pillar of Chinese modernization. As a new round of the global scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation gathers pace, competition is becoming increasingly intense in fields such as artificial intelligence, aerospace technology, biomedicine, and new energy.

The report noted that to achieve high-level self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology, and to move from a major manufacturing country to a strong country in intelligent manufacturing, China needs to draw on the younger generation's innovative potential and creativity.

In aerospace, many young researchers have participated in the research and development of core systems for space station construction, the report said. In deep-sea exploration, young technicians have played an important role in the R&D team of Jiaolong, China's deep-sea manned submersible. In artificial intelligence, several youth-led startup teams have made breakthroughs in algorithms and large AI models.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that China trains more than three million science and engineering graduates every year, steadily strengthening the talent pool for scientific and technological innovation.

"By unlocking their potential at the industrial frontier, these young people are turning the 'engineer dividend' into a tangible 'innovation dividend,' becoming a strong driving force for Chinese modernization," the report said.
