ADEN, Yemen, June 15 (Xinhua) -- A container vessel came under attack from a small armed skiff south of Yemen's coast on Monday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
In a statement posted on X, UKMTO said it had received a report of an incident approximately 14 nautical miles south of the Yemeni coast. A small skiff approached a container vessel and opened fire while attempting to board the ship.
UKMTO provided no further details on the vessel involved, casualties, damage, or the identity of the attackers.
The incident occurred in waters near one of the world's busiest maritime trade routes, where commercial shipping has faced heightened security risks in recent years due to regional instability and piracy-related threats. ■
