BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of telecom fraud cases reported in China has fallen year on year for eight consecutive months since October 2025, Zhu Lei, an official with the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), told a press conference on Friday.

Telecom and online fraud, a typical form of transnational organized crime, has emerged as a global menace and a major governance challenge worldwide, Zhu noted.

Since 2025, Chinese authorities have stepped up coordinated efforts to tackle the crime through law enforcement operations, sector-specific regulations, technological countermeasures, public awareness and prevention campaigns, and international cooperation, achieving notable results, he said.

China has also strengthened international law enforcement cooperation with relevant countries, dismantling large-scale gambling and fraud compounds in Myanmar's northern region and Myawaddy, and also in Cambodia.

Through these joint operations, authorities have apprehended key leaders of major cross-border gambling and fraud syndicates, including Chen Zhi and She Zhijiang, also known as She Kriang Kai, Zhu said.

China has intensified efforts to combat telecom and online fraud under the Anti-Telecom and Online Fraud Law since 2025, coordinating measures both domestically and internationally, and both online and offline, according to the MPS.

On international law enforcement cooperation, a total of 58,000 fraud suspects have been transferred to Chinese authorities. Domestically, public security organs nationwide solved 258,000 cases of telecom and online fraud in 2025. The MPS, together with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, imposed installation bans on 64,000 fraud-related mobile applications.

China on Wednesday launched a nationwide anti-fraud publicity campaign to further strengthen public awareness and the ability to recognize and prevent fraud.

As part of the campaign, local authorities across the country will integrate anti-fraud education more deeply into grassroots governance.

Public security authorities, together with relevant regulators, will also urge financial institutions, telecommunications operators and internet service providers to carry out extensive anti-fraud awareness campaigns targeting both their employees and customers.
