JAKARTA, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government plans to build 100 integrated national schools this year to accelerate equitable access to quality education, offering better opportunities for high-achieving students nationwide, local media reported Friday.

"This year, we plan to build 100 integrated national schools, and proposals have already been submitted by 36 schools that we have selected," Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti was quoted by local media as saying.

"In addition, one school will be established in Nusantara Capital City, and nine new schools will be constructed in selected regions," he added.

The initiative aims to bridge the education gap across the country. The official noted that the development will follow a two-pronged approach: constructing brand-new facilities and upgrading existing ones.
