NEW DELHI, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Retail inflation in India rose to 3.93 percent in May from 3.48 percent in April, owing to the rise in fuel and food prices, according to an official statement by the country's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Friday.
Prices of petrol, diesel, CNG and cooking gas have risen over the past month, mainly attributed to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
According to the ministry's data, the overall food inflation rose to 4.78 percent during May, from 4.2 percent in April. While food inflation rose by 4.85 percent in rural areas, it rose by 4.66 percent in urban areas. ■
