TEHRAN, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Iran's semi-official Fars news agency on Friday rejected claims that a peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington has been finalized and will possibly be signed in Geneva on Sunday.
Fars cited an informed source close to the Iranian negotiating team as saying that the claims are "absolutely untrue."
"Basically, the review and decision-making process in Iran has not yet been finalized," the source added.
Citing senior officials, Bloomberg reported Friday that the United States and Iran are close to signing the MoU to "reopen the Strait of Hormuz," with the signing ceremony to be possibly held in Geneva on Sunday.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States had "just made a great settlement of the war with Iran," with an agreement expected to be signed "over the next few days."
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told state-run IRIB TV on Thursday that the MoU's text had been almost finalized for the most part, but the problem was that the U.S. "contradictory" positions had always caused disruptions to the diplomatic process.
A ceasefire was achieved between Iran, the United States and Israel on April 8 after 40 days of fighting.
Iran and the United States have during the past weeks exchanged several proposed plans outlining conditions for peace through Pakistan's mediation. ■
