MACAO, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum and Exhibition (IIICF) held its opening ceremony on Thursday in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), with a focus on green digital infrastructure connectivity.

Jointly organized by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao SAR and the China International Contractors Association, the event was said to adopt a three-in-one approach of "forum + exhibition + meetings," featuring more than 250 thematic and side activities and an 8,000-square-meter exhibition area.

The event involved the release of the Report on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2026) and the Report on Portuguese-speaking Countries' Infrastructure Development Index and Macao's Achievements in Belt and Road Initiative (2026).

Tam Vai Man, secretary for transport and public works of the Macao SAR government, said at the opening ceremony that with more than a decade of accumulated experience, the IIICF has developed into an annual industry event of high standards, large scale, and great influence in the field of global infrastructure cooperation.

Under the theme "Boosting Green Digital Infrastructure Connectivity," Tam added, this year's IIICF focuses on the latest applications and practices of green and digital-intelligent technologies in the infrastructure sector.

Philip Wong, East Asia business and markets director at Arup, a forum participant, told Xinhua that amid the accelerating shift towards greener, low-carbon, and digitized infrastructure, the infrastructure industry is placing greater emphasis on lifecycle value and system resilience. This year's forum provides valuable guidance for businesses navigating global infrastructure investment opportunities.

As a flagship annual event for global infrastructure cooperation, the forum provides a stable and efficient platform for its participants to engage with long-standing partners and key clients, Wong added.

The forum agenda reflects the latest global developments in infrastructure construction and investment, particularly in the areas of sustainable and smart infrastructure, said Yin Heng, executive general manager of the International Company of China Construction Third Group Construction & Engineering Co., Ltd.

Yin noted that the company hopes to leverage the forum as a platform to further strengthen cooperation with governments and business partners in sectors including highways, rail transit systems, airports, municipal and water infrastructure, as well as energy projects.

The event was scheduled to run through Friday.
