DAR ES SALAAM, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania on Thursday unveiled its National Development Plan for the 2026/27 fiscal year, marking the first phase in implementing the country's long-term National Development Vision 2050 and its Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2026/27-2030/31).
The blueprint aims to foster inclusive economic growth, job creation and competitiveness, while reinforcing the private sector's role in investment and project implementation, said Kitila Mkumbo, minister of state in the President's Office responsible for planning and investment, when presenting the plan in parliament in the capital city of Dodoma.
The plan translates broader five-year priorities into specific programs, and the key priorities include boosting productivity in strategic sectors, enhancing human capital and social development, promoting environmental conservation and climate resilience, and maximizing investment opportunities, he said.
The government has allocated about 20.82 trillion Tanzanian shillings (about 8 billion U.S. dollars) for development projects, representing about 33 percent of the total national budget of 62.33 trillion shillings (about 24 billion dollars) for the 2026/27 fiscal year, Mkumbo said.
Financing will come from both domestic and external sources, with the National Planning Commission overseeing its execution, he added. ■
