China's Dong stuns top seed at Australian Badminton Open

SYDNEY, June 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Dong Tianyao stunned top seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei here on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Badminton Open.

Dong, the world No. 73, came back from a game down to beat Chou, the world No. 6 and top seed in the men's singles draw 20-22, 21-16, 25-23 in one hour and 27 minutes.

Dong will be joined in the quarterfinals by compatriot Hu Zhe'an, who defeated Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei 11-21, 21-15, 21-16.

Alongside Dong and Hu in the men's singles, seven Chinese doubles teams also won on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals.

The world No. 1 pair of Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping defeated Malaysia's Loo Bing Kun and Noraqilah Maisarah 21-9, 21-8 in the mixed doubles, while second seeds Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui also came through, beating Chinese Taipei's Wu Hsuan-Yi and Yang Chu Yun 11-21, 21-11, 21-12.

Top women's doubles seeds Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian overcame a slow start to beat the American pair of Francesca Corbett and Jennie Gai 19-21, 21-6, 21-19, while the team of Luo Yi and Wang Tingge downed Australians Laudya Chelsea Griselda and Nozomi Shimizu 21-9, 21-12.

In the men's doubles, fourth seeds Chen Boyang and Liu Yi will face Huang Di and Liu Yang in the quarterfinals, with the winners potentially meeting second seeds Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in the semifinals after all three teams won their matches in two games.
