CAIRO/DOHA, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt and Qatar on Thursday urged the United States and Iran to continue negotiations to ease tensions and end the conflict, following renewed military clashes between the two sides.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Thursday stressed the importance of diplomacy to contain the escalation and prevent a broader regional conflict, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In a phone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Abdelatty also reviewed preparations for the fourth meeting of a quadrilateral mechanism comprising Egypt, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia, set to be held in Cairo to push for regional de-escalation, according to the statement.

The two officials called for mutually acceptable understandings to ease tensions, restore stability, and prevent further escalation.

Earlier Thursday, the U.S. Central Command said its forces conducted strikes against multiple Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps said it had launched missile attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Qatar on Thursday condemned the renewed Iranian attacks against the three countries, calling them a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the three countries and a flagrant breach of international law.

In a statement, Qatar's Foreign Ministry stressed the need to spare the region the repercussions of such "unjustified attacks" and to work toward de-escalation to restore regional security and stability.
