ANKARA, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's central bank kept its key policy rate unchanged at 37 percent on Thursday, maintaining caution for a third straight month as prolonged Middle East tensions ripple through prices.

"Amid geopolitical developments and the resulting uncertainties, energy prices remain volatile and elevated," the central bank's Monetary Policy Committee said in a statement after its rate-setting meeting.

Annual inflation in Türkiye edged up to 32.6 percent in May, from 32.4 percent the month prior, reaching a 7-month high, mainly due to soaring energy prices.

In March, the central bank paused its rate-cutting cycle, warning that market turbulence linked to the Iran war could hike up inflation.

It also raised its 2026 inflation forecast to 24 percent in May, up from a previous estimate of 16 percent, citing external risks and persistent price pressures.
