ISLAMABAD, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A tourist van plunged into a ravine in Pakistan's north Murree region on Wednesday, claiming 10 lives while injuring at least 13 others.
The accident took place on the Murree Expressway when the tourists' van tumbled off the road due to overspeeding, Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi told Xinhua.
After the unfortunate accident, the van caught fire, burning some of the passengers beyond recognition, he said, adding that women and children are among the victims.
The van, carrying at least 23 passengers, was on its way to Murree from Multan district of the country's east Punjab province when the accident happened.
Following the accident, rescue teams and local volunteers reached the site and retrieved bodies and the injured, and shifted them to a nearby hospital, where several injured are in a critical condition, local police said. ■
