SYDNEY, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The surviving alleged perpetrator of the fatal mass shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach in December last year has been charged with an additional 19 offenses relating to the attack, a court heard on Wednesday.
A defense lawyer for 24-year-old Naveed Akram told a Sydney court on Wednesday that paperwork has been filed for new charges, including 10 counts of shooting at someone with intent to murder, six counts of discharging a firearm with intent to resist arrest and three counts of causing wounding with intent to murder.
Akram was previously charged with 15 counts of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder and one count of committing a terrorist act following the shooting that targeted a Jewish event at the iconic beach on Dec. 14.
It will be alleged by prosecutors that Akram and his father, Sajid, who was shot dead by police at the scene, were motivated by Islamic State ideology to carry out the attack, which was the most deadly mass shooting in Australia since 1996. ■
