BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.42 percent to 3,993.23 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.06 percent lower at 14,954.1 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 2.62 trillion yuan (about 384.56 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.64 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the industrial gas, insurance, banking, and tourism sectors led the gains, while coal and electric power sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.7 percent to close at 3,854.79 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.78 percent lower at 2,014.2 points. ■
