SYDNEY, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Two people have died, and a third has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a car and truck collided south of Sydney on Wednesday morning.
A police statement said that emergency services were called to the crash near the town of Nowra, 125 km south of Sydney, around 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday and arrived to find that the two vehicles had collided and blocked a highway.
Both occupants of the car, the driver and a passenger who has not been identified, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck was trapped in the vehicle and was airlifted to the hospital in a serious condition after being freed by emergency services.
Police established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the cause of the crash.
According to the latest data, as of Tuesday, there had been 158 deaths in road incidents in the state of New South Wales (NSW) so far in 2026, up from 153 deaths at the same point in 2025. ■
