BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.28 percent to 4,010.03 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.02 percent higher at 15,268.71 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 2.64 trillion yuan (about 387.4 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.79 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the semiconductor and storage chips sectors led the gains, while coal industry and retail sales sector stocks suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.93 percent to close at 3,961.75 points on Tuesday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.82 percent higher at 2,029.96 points. ■
