BAGHDAD, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Five people, including three children and two men, were killed and a woman was injured Tuesday when a car overturned near the southern Iraqi city of Diwaniyah, local officials said.
Major Saad al-Waeli from the Diwaniyah Police Command told Xinhua that the civilian vehicle overturned due to excessive speeding near the city, some 180 km south of the capital Baghdad.
Sameer al-Abadi from the media office of the Diwaniyah health directorate said that the sole survivor, a woman with moderate injuries and burns, is receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
Traffic accidents are common in Iraq due to poor roads and lax safety enforcement. At least 21 people were killed and 19 others injured, including two Iranian nationals, on Sunday in a bus-truck crash involving Shiite pilgrims in southern Iraq's Dhi Qar province, according to the Iraqi Health Ministry. ■
