BAGHDAD/DAMASCUS, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Several countries in the Middle East, including Syria and Iraq, announced partial or full closure of their airspace on Sunday following Iranian missiles launched toward Israel.
After the attacks, Iran's Civil Aviation Authority said the country's western airspace will be closed until further notice in view of the security and safety assessments, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
In light of the latest development, Iraq's Civil Aviation Authority announced the temporary closure of the country's airspace to all arriving, departing, and transit flights for 72 hours as a precautionary measure amid ongoing regional tensions.
Separately, Syria's civil aviation authorities announced the temporary closure of the country's southern air corridors and the suspension of operations at Damascus International Airport.
The decisions followed Iran's launch of multiple waves of missiles toward Israel on Sunday evening, with air raid sirens sounding across wide areas in northern Israel. The Israeli military reportedly said it intercepted all the incoming missiles. ■
