HANOI, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's industrial production recorded its strongest growth for the January-May period in the past four years, the Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the National Statistics Office.
The index of industrial production rose 9.1 percent year on year during the five-month span, said the report.
The manufacturing and processing sector, the main engine of industrial growth, rose 9.5 percent and contributed 7.4 percentage points to the overall increase. Mining rebounded 5.5 percent, and electricity production and distribution grew 7.6 percent.
Several major industries posted double-digit gains, including metal production, motor vehicle manufacturing and chemical products, with motorcycle output surging 36 percent and automobile production jumping 26.7 percent.
Industrial growth was recorded across all 34 provinces and cities, the report said. ■
