BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and 11 others injured in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday, according to a preliminary toll reported by Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).
The rescue operations were continuing, said the NNA report.
Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed TV reported that the three-missile strike targeted two apartments near the Aytam gas station junction toward the area of Tahwitat al-Ghadir.
Meanwhile, Israel's military said in a statement that the Israeli air force launched a series of airstrikes in Beirut's southern suburb in Lebanon on Sunday afternoon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said they instructed to launch the strikes "in response" to Hezbollah fire.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said it intercepted two rockets that crossed into Israeli territory.
The developments came despite Israel and Lebanon agreeing on Wednesday to implement a ceasefire following trilateral negotiations in Washington. ■
