GAZA/RAMALLAH, June 7 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian fisherman was killed by Israeli naval fire, and four others were arrested off the coast of the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

Palestinian medical sources at al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah reported the arrival of the body of 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Jayyab, who died from gunfire by Israeli naval vessels off the city's coast.

Zakaria Bakr, coordinator of Gaza's fishermen's committees, told Xinhua that Abu Jayyab "was killed by Israeli gunfire while trying to fish to provide for his family."

In another incident, Israeli naval forces arrested four Palestinian fishermen off the coast of Gaza City, according to Bakr.

The Israeli army has not commented on the developments.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the Israeli government fully and directly responsible for its "crimes" committed against Palestinians, calling on mediating and guarantor states to take immediate action and pressure Israel to stop its "crimes" against Palestinian civilians, ensure full compliance with relevant international resolutions, and guarantee the immediate and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip without restrictions.

In a press statement, the ministry also called on the international community to activate international accountability mechanisms to immediately halt all violations, practices, policies, and crimes in the Gaza Strip, leading to a comprehensive cessation of hostilities, a complete Israeli withdrawal, and recovery and reconstruction.

Earlier on Saturday, Gaza-based health authorities said that 951 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since a ceasefire in Gaza took effect in October 2025, bringing the total death toll since Oct. 7, 2023, to 72,961.
