TEHRAN, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday its ground forces have killed four members of a "terrorist" team who sought to enter the country through the southeastern border in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Making the announcement in a statement published on its official news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC noted that provincial intelligence forces also cooperated in the operation to smash the "terror" group, which was carried out in Saravan County on Sunday morning.
It added that a security force was also killed in the operation, adding its ground forces managed to seize from the "terrorists" some amounts of weapons, ammunition and equipment, among others.
According to the statement, intelligence and operational measures are underway to identify and arrest the "terrorist" group's other potential members.
Sistan and Baluchestan, a province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, has witnessed recurring clashes between Iranian security forces, militants, and drug traffickers. ■
