ISTANBUL, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Turkish authorities have banned entry to forested areas across Istanbul from June 8 to Oct. 15, the Istanbul Governor's Office announced Saturday.
The measure also prohibits lighting fires near forests, including barbecues and camp stoves, among others, it said.
The decision aims to reduce wildfire risks during hot, dry summer months. Istanbul, home to over 16 million residents, has popular forest areas for picnics and hiking.
Türkiye has faced devastating wildfires in recent years, prompting stricter preventive measures. Similar restrictions have been introduced in several provinces, including Izmir. ■
