World Environment Day 2026 commemoration event kicks off in Azerbaijan

The global commemoration of World Environment Day 2026 kicked off here on Friday, inaugurating a series of events, campaigns, and creative initiatives across the nation and internationally, with the aim of enhancing public engagement and advancing climate action.

Held under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," the event was organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the United Nations Environment Programme.

IAEA chief calls for restraint, adherence to ceasefire near Zaporizhzhia

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) called for maximum military restraint and full adherence to the localized ceasefire on Friday, after Russian personnel were reportedly injured near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The IAEA said it has been informed that some Russian military personnel were injured during Friday's de-mining phase of the agreed localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

Israeli military says Hezbollah launches surface-to-air missiles at air force aircraft, no injuries reported

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement Friday night that it detected surface-to-air missile launches by Hezbollah, targeting Israeli Air Force aircraft.

It added that the incident concluded with no injuries or damage to the aircraft.

Iran dismisses uranium transfer claim -- media

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency on Friday rejected a report by Saudi-owned Al Arabiya network that Tehran has agreed to transfer its enriched uranium to a third country.

Citing an informed source close to the Iranian negotiating team, Fars said nuclear issues were basically not on the current agenda of the talks between Tehran and Washington aimed at ending the war, and would only be discussed at later stages.

DR Congo's confirmed Ebola cases rise to 452, with 82 deaths: report

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to 452, including 82 deaths, according to the latest situation report released by the country's health ministry.

According to the report, health authorities reported 71 new confirmed cases on June 4, including 21 deaths, in Ituri and North Kivu provinces, a sign of rapid and continuing community transmission amid the outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
