BISHKEK, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Law enforcement officers seized more than 34 kilograms of suspected drugs in the Batken region in southwestern Kyrgyzstan during a special operation targeting drug trafficking, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs said Wednesday.
During the operation, information was received that an individual was allegedly transporting a large quantity of hashish from neighboring Tajikistan into Kyrgyzstan for further distribution.
As a result of investigative measures, officers from the regional department of internal affairs identified and detained a suspect born in 1993 while he was reportedly attempting to sell the drugs.
During a search of the suspect and his vehicle, three packages containing a substance with a specific odor and a total weight of 3 kilograms were found and seized.
Subsequently, a search of the suspect's residence uncovered an additional 31 similar packages with a combined weight of more than 31 kilograms.
A forensic chemical examination has been ordered to determine the exact nature of the seized substances. ■
