BANGKOK, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's cash rebate program has attracted 100 foreign film productions from 12 countries and regions since the initiative was launched in 2017, data from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports showed on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the program has so far generated more than 20 billion baht (about 612 million U.S. dollars) in revenue for the country and distributed income to over 170,000 Thai individuals and entrepreneurs across the film industry, service sectors, and related supply chains.

Under the scheme, the Thai government offers a cash rebate of up to 30 percent for foreign film and television productions with local expenditures of 50 million baht (about 1.53 million dollars) or more.

In a statement, Jaturon Phakdeewanit, director general of the Department of Tourism, said film incentive measures are a crucial mechanism in propelling Thailand to become an international hub for film and entertainment production.

The milestone reflects the Southeast Asian country's potential and readiness to accommodate international productions with its diverse locations, professional crews, logistics, and robust industry support systems that help facilitate efficient filming, Jaturon added.
