JAKARTA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday detained Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim as part of an investigation into alleged corruption linked to the issuance of residency permits for foreign nationals.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said seven other suspects had also been named in the case, including current and former officials of the Directorate General of Immigration.

The anti-graft agency said it had seized a number of assets as evidence, including vehicles and precious metals, and was continuing to investigate the case.

The probe expands an operation launched earlier this week that resulted in additional suspects being identified.

Authorities suspect the alleged corruption involved the processing of limited-stay permits and permanent-stay permits for foreign nationals.
