KUWAIT CITY, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that its armed forces intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones that entered the country's airspace over residential areas.

Speaking at a media briefing, Saud Al-Atwan, spokesperson for the defense ministry, said the missiles and drones were detected over several residential areas and intercepted by the armed forces, with some shrapnel falling in different locations.

The interceptions came amid what Kuwait described as continued Iranian attacks against the Gulf state, Al-Atwan said, adding that the armed forces remain on high alert to respond to potential threats and protect national security.

Also on Wednesday, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the resumption of all Kuwait Airways flights through Terminal 4 (T4) at Kuwait International Airport after alleged Iranian attacks killed one person and injured 63.

The DGCA said the decision was made following extensive field inspections and technical evaluations by specialized teams and relevant authorities to verify the terminal's operational readiness and its ability to safely receive flights and passengers.

Earlier on Wednesday, authorities suspended flights and temporarily closed the country's airspace after missile and drone attacks damaged facilities at the airport, prompting emergency response measures and technical inspections.
